There is no doubt that the man they call Wolverine is one of the most well-known characters of the Marvel Universe. From the time Wolverine came out of the comic book scene in 1974, coming out during the anti-hero boom following the conclusion of the Vietnam War. Since then, the man known as Logan has been in countless comic books, cartoons, video games and movies. He was in many way, not the typical superhero, given his brooding, introverted and anti-authoritarian characteristics. Nevertheless, Wolverine ranks at the top, as seen in Wizard Magazine’s Top 200, and Empire Magazine’s 50 Greatest Comic Book characters of all time.

Wolverine is also known for his trademark yellow spandex costume, retractable claws, accelerated healing factor and cat-quick agility and speed. His skeletal structure, laced with adamantium during the Weapon X era, has made his bones almost indestructable. He is also known for his rivalries with Sabretooth, Juggernaut and Silver Samurai, his affiliations with Captain America, the Avengers, and his numerous crossovers in the comic book world.

More recently, Wolverine has seen a revival of his already high popularity with the release of the X-Men movie series, as well as the release of his first feature length film starring Hugh Jackman. Wolverine is also the headlining character in a new cartoon spin-off, Wolverine and the X-Men.
