The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a group of four mutant turtles who live in the sewers of Manhattan. They were trained in Ninjutsu by their Master Splinter, who like them is also a mutant, though he is a rat instead of a turtle. The turtles are crime fighters and they fight criminals, evil alien invaders and their arch enemy Shredder and his army of foot soldiers.
These four turtles are named after famous painters and each have their own personality. There’s Leonardo who is the brave leader of the team, he wears a blue mask and carries a pair of swords. Raphael, the resident bad boy who wears a red mask and carries a pair of sai. Michelangelo, who is usually the comic relief in the team. He wears an orange mask and wields a nunchaku. And lastly, there’s Donatello, who is the smartest in the group. He is a scientist, inventor, engineer and is known to have made several of the gadgets that they use. He wears a purple mask and carries a staff.
During the height of popularity of TMNT in the 80s and 90s, you can see TMNT everywhere, in various merchandise, comic books, action figures, video games and collectibles. The comic book eventually spawned an animated series that ran from 1987 to 1996 and a live-action series. There were also several movies and a second animated series that started in 2003 and is still on air until today.
