There are very few superheroes in the Marvel universe that have no innate powers. These kinds of superheroes are forced to look for other means to fight evil, or in this case, save his life. Enter Tony Stark, also known to the world as Iron Man. The owner of a multi-million dollar empire, Stark is a brilliant engineer and industrialist with personal demons. It took his kidnapping, and a near death experience for him to realize the need for him to survive. So, while in recluse, Stark made a powered suit of armor and used it to escape.

With his suit of armor, Iron Man has the ability to wield sophisticated weaponry, travel great distances through flight and withstand tremendous amounts of pressure and force. The suit, most importantly however, protects Tony Stark’s heart, which, if left uncharged, would be peirced by the shrapnel he received from his kidnapping. The same suit, furthermore, has went through significant changes to make it more efficient and fail-safe.

Iron Man is also known for his time with supergroup the Avengers, alongside heroes such as Captain America, the Hulk, Thor and Hawkeye, as well as his silent rivalry with Captain America, and numerous bouts with the Mandarin. More recently, the Iron Man character has been portrayed in film by actor Robert Downey, Jr.
