Hellboy is a devil-like creature with red skin, horns, a tail and a disproportionate right hand that is made of stone. He was found in ruined church by Professor Trevor “Broom” Bruttenholm during World War 2. He was named “Hellboy” because of his appearance. He was brought up by the professor as a normal boy and was taught how to behave normally which is said to the reason why he does not behave like other demons who are always thought to be malevolent.

Hellboy works in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) with other human and quasi-human agents who are dedicated to fight against occult threats. Because of his line of work, Hellboy is dubbed as “the World’s Greatest Paranormal Investigator”.

Hellboy has several powers and abilities, these includes super strength and resistance to physical injury. He has displayed innate skill at translating and interpreting ancient, magical languages and he seems to age much slower than humans.

Since his first appearance in 1991, the Hellboy franchise has grown to include comic books, novels, anthologies and an animated movie. It was even successfully adapted into a theatrical release in 2004, a sequel in 2008 and a third movie is currently being developed as well.
