The Green Lantern is the name of several characters who possess a ring that gives them powers to control the physical world. These rings are the creation of the Guardians of the Universe, who grant these rings to individual who they think are worthy of wielding the power. These individuals who possess a ring make up the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps. The most notable Green Lanterns are John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner. All the Green Lanterns from Earth have become members of the Justice Society of America.
The Green Lantern’s source of power is his ring which can generate a variety of effects and which is said to grow stronger and more effective depending on the bearer’s willpower. The power of the ring allows the bearer to fly in speeds faster than light, plasma bolts, travel through time, telepathic powers, generate force fields and construct green ‘solid energy’ among others.
Over the years, the Green Lantern has become one of the most well-known superhero along with Batman and Superman who are also fellow members in the Justice League.
