Very few superheroes gain fame by acting as a group. The Fantastic Four however, changed all of that when they made their debut back in 1961. As the first superhero group made by parent company Marvel, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm all gained their powers when they went outer space and were exposed to cosmic rays, portrayed contradicting personalities against one another.

Reed Richards, who becaame Mr. Fantastic, has the ability to stretch and twist his body. Sue Storm, now known as the Invisible Woman, has the ability to wield force fields and turn invisible. Her brother, Johnny, became known as the Human Torch, able to ignite his body on command, as well as fly. Finally, Ben Grim, who turned into the Thing, gained superhuman strength, despite the drastic transformation in his body, most especially his skin.

Every character in the Fantastic Four showed a different facet of being human. Mr. Fantastic, the leader of the group, is seen as authoritative, analytical and dull. The Invisible Woman is often seen as silent and meek. The Human Torch represented the brash, obnoxious and rebellious, while The Thing is seen as a character who is broody, short-tempered and brutally honest.

Most notable about the group is the fact that unlike other superheroes, the Fantastic Four do not hide their identities unlike other superheroes. The group has celebrity-like status thanks to their contributions to the community. Also, more recently, the Fantastic Four gained more popularity with the release of 2 feature length films which saw them against their arch-rivals, Dr. Doom and the Silver Surfer.
