Super Hero Costumes

Superheroes have always been a part of our culture. A lot of us have grown up reading comic books and watched tv series with superheroes in them. Some of the oldest superheroes like Superman, Batman and Spiderman have been around for more than 50 years, but they are still very popular among kids and adults to this day.

So what exactly defines a superhero? A superhero is typically the “good guy”, the one who saves the day from criminals, supervillains, evil alien invaders and everything else that is known to be evil or bad. Superheroes usually wear costumes and masks and have secret identities while some do not keep their identities a secret. They have cool superhuman powers and abilities that helps them take down the bad guys. Most superheroes work independently while some of them work in groups or teams. There are also some superhero teams or “all-star” groups that consist of heroes who work individually, but will team up together to fight larger threats like the Avengers and the Justice League.

But what makes a superhero unique aside from his powers is his costume. Superheroes wear costumes for a lot of different reasons, one of these is to make him recognizable to the general public, hide their secret identities and for some superheroes, their costumes are part of their defense. Costumes are most often colorful to enhance a character’s appearance and their costumes also incorporate the superhero’s theme and name. A typical superhero costume have have recurring themes that include masks, a symbol or a stylized visual icon much like Superman’s “S” on his chest, capes (while not all superheroes wear them) and form-fitting clothing or tights which emphasizes a character’s athletic build.
